Introducing the New Broken Arrow Ranch & Sanctuary Website

We are thrilled to unveil the new and improved Broken Arrow Ranch & Sanctuary website! With a fresh look, an intuitive layout, and an updated logo, our new site reflects the heart and soul of our mission—providing sanctuary, connection, and stewardship for both people and the land. Along with these design upgrades, we are excited to introduce new pages and offerings that deepen our commitment to experiential learning, community engagement, and regenerative land management. Here’s a closer look at what’s new.

Medicine Horse Monday: Sanctuary Sessions

Imagine starting your week with clarity, intention, and the wisdom of horses. Medicine Horse Monday: Sanctuary Sessions is a weekly live-streamed gathering where the herd’s presence offers guidance and inspiration. Led by Jordanna Anawalt, these sessions explore themes of balance, presence, and connection, helping you realign with nature’s rhythms and your own inner wisdom.

Whether you join a single session or become part of our Wild & Wise Herd for full access and behind-the-scenes content, this unique opportunity brings the sanctuary’s energy to you—wherever you are. Our first session beings March 31!

Ranch Experiences: Immersions, Community Events, and Volunteering

At Broken Arrow Ranch, we believe in the power of experience. Our immersions and workshops allow guests to engage deeply with the land, the horses, and the surrounding ecosystem. From half-day classes to week-long retreats, these offerings provide transformative learning through horsemanship, ecology, and personal growth.

We’re also planning community events that celebrate connection and the natural world. Upcoming gatherings include weekend glampouts, range dinners, and our annual fundraiser—all designed to immerse you in the beauty of the Central Oregon high desert. These moments go beyond typical events; they foster belonging, reflection, and shared purpose. Stay tuned for announcements on our 2025 event calendar!

For those who want to be more hands-on, volunteering at Broken Arrow Ranch is a meaningful way to contribute to our mission. Whether you’re assisting with horse care, helping with land restoration, or supporting events, volunteers play a vital role in the sanctuary’s daily rhythm. Seasonal volunteer days run May through November, with year-round In-Residence Volunteer opportunities available for those looking to make a deeper commitment. Click here to apply.

Regenerative Land Initiative

We are embarking on an ambitious project to restore native habitats and enhance the ecological resilience of Oregon’s high desert landscape. Through regenerative land management, we aim to revitalize soil health, support biodiversity, and create a thriving environment for wildlife and our sanctuary horses.

A cornerstone of this initiative is using rotational grazing to mimic the natural movements of native herbivores. Our horses will help aerate the soil, disperse seeds, and stimulate plant growth, fostering healthier ecosystems. Another critical focus is restoring springs and waterways, which have been disrupted by the spread of western juniper. By strategically removing encroaching juniper trees, we can improve groundwater retention, enhance riparian habitats, and support native species like sage grouse, songbirds, and pronghorn antelope.
