Why Donate to Horse Sanctuaries and Where Does the Money Go?
Horses are the epitome of grace and loyalty, showcasing a beauty that moves hearts. Their strength, intelligence, and remarkable ability to form deep connections go beyond mere animals—they become cherished companions. Sadly, these incredible creatures frequently endure perilous situations, enduring neglect, abuse, or unsafe conditions that jeopardize their well-being. Safeguarding their existence isn't just an act of kindness; it's crucial to honor their remarkable historical role and their impact on our lives. At The Broken Arrow Ranch and Sanctuary, it’s our goal to save horses, mules and burros from slaughter and other terrible conditions. With your generous contributions and donations, it is possible to save even more of these amazing animals.
How Your Donation Helps Horses
Horse sanctuaries like BARS rely on donations to cover various critical needs. These include:
Medical Care: Funds are needed for veterinary care, medications, surgeries, and treatments to ensure the health and well-being of rescued horses. Some may arrive with injuries, illnesses, or malnourishment requiring immediate attention. Further, horses often require medical treatments such as wound care, dental procedures, joint therapies, and parasite control for optimal health. Did you know that horses' hooves generally require trimming every 6 to 8 weeks to maintain proper balance and prevent issues like overgrowth or uneven wear?
Food and Shelter: Providing adequate nutrition and safe shelter is essential. This includes purchasing quality hay, grains, supplements, and maintaining facilities to protect horses from the elements. According to the Human Society, an average-size horse will eat about 20 lbs. of food a day and drink at least eight gallons of water!
Facility Maintenance: Regular upkeep of barns, pastures, fencing, and equipment ensures a safe and comfortable environment for the horses. This also includes creating spaces for rehabilitation and training.
Staff and Training: Sanctuaries require skilled staff to care for the horses. Training programs and workshops for staff and volunteers ensure proper handling, rehabilitation, and enrichment activities for the horses.
Rescue Operations: Funds may be allocated for rescue missions to bring horses from abusive or neglectful situations to the sanctuary. This includes transportation costs and legal fees for necessary interventions.
Administrative Costs: Running any organization involves administrative expenses, such as utility bills, insurance, and other operational costs.
Donations play a crucial role in sustaining our sanctuary, allowing us to continue rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing lifelong care for horses in need!
